Spellscope Privacy Policy
Effective November 1, 2026
Spellscope collects as little about you as it can. We don't sell your information, we don't show ads, and we don't track you across other apps or websites. This policy explains, in plain language, what we keep and why.
Who we are
Spellscope is made by Moonlit Pixel Studio. If you have a question about your privacy, write to us at moonlitpixel.studio@gmail.com.
What we collect
When you sign in
- Your email address and password. Your password is scrambled so that no one, including us, can read it.
- If you choose "Continue with Google," Google shares your email, name and profile photo link. We use only your first name, as a suggestion for what Mother Ruby calls you, and we don't save the rest anywhere else.
Your profile
- The name or nickname you choose for Mother Ruby to call you.
- Your sun sign, and your rising sign if you add it.
- Whether you're a teen (13 to 17) or an adult.
- Your birthday, month and day only, never the year, if you ask Mother Ruby to remember it.
- Your familiar and its style.
- When you joined. This also decides whether you're one of the Founding Coven.
When you use the app
- The cards you draw: which card, upright or reversed, the date, and that day's reading, so your Grimoire can remember them.
- Your Moon Garden: your beds, seeds and harvests.
- Names you've reported and people you've blocked, so they stay hidden from you.
- Squads you've asked to join, and when.
Squads
- The squad's name, chosen by its creator.
- Your member card: your name, sun sign and familiar, the Founding Coven mark if you have one, and your rising sign and birthday only if you choose to share them.
- People added by hand by a squad's creator: a nickname and their signs, nothing else.
Reports. If you report a name or a reading, we keep your report (what was reported, the reason, the squad, the time, and who sent it) until we review it.
Crash reports. If the app crashes, it sends a technical report through Firebase Crashlytics, a Google service: what failed, your phone's make, model and system version, the app version, your network type, when the app was opened, and a random ID for the app on your phone. We attach no name, account or other details about you.
What stays on your phone. Your settings (such as your morning note and its time), saved readings for the week, and copies of your profile, cards and garden for offline use stay on your phone and aren't sent anywhere. Your time zone and your phone's clock and motion settings are read to show the right times, but never stored or sent.
What we never keep. Your full birth date. It's used once to work out your sun sign and age group, then thrown away.
How we use it
- To sign you in and keep your account working.
- To give you the right readings for your sign, and to have Mother Ruby greet you by name.
- To keep your Grimoire, garden and squads the same on every phone you use.
- To show your squads who's in them, using only what you've chosen to share.
- To keep teens and adults in separate squads.
- To review reports and keep Spellscope safe.
- To find and fix crashes.
Who else receives it
Google (Firebase). Spellscope's accounts, database and crash reports run on Google's Firebase services. Google stores this information for us as our service provider. Google also records some technical details on its own, such as IP addresses and device information, for security and to prevent abuse. See Google's privacy policy and Firebase's privacy information. Your information is stored on Google's servers in the United States.
Your squads. Members of a squad you join see your member card: your name, sun sign, familiar and Founding Coven mark, plus your rising sign and birthday only if you turn those on. They never see your email, your age, or your other squads.
Us. Only Moonlit Pixel Studio can read reports. The person you report is never told who reported them.
Mother Ruby's readings. Readings are written with AI (Claude, by Anthropic) from sign names and sky events only. No information about you is ever sent to Anthropic. Mother Ruby is a character, and her readings are for entertainment.
Our website. spellscope.app uses no cookies, analytics or advertising. Like any website host, Firebase Hosting sees visitors' IP addresses.
What we never do
- We never sell your information.
- We don't show ads, and we don't use advertising or tracking tools.
- We don't use your location, contacts, camera, microphone or photos.
- There's no chat in Spellscope.
Because we don't track you across other websites or apps, Spellscope works the same whether or not your browser sends a "Do Not Track" signal.
Children and teens
You must be 13 or older to make a Spellscope account. Ages are self-reported at sign-up. Teens (13 to 17) can only join squads with other teens, and adults can only join squads with other adults.
A squad's creator can add someone without an account by hand, such as a young child in a family squad. For these people we store only a nickname and their signs, nothing else. They can't use the app, and the squad's creator can remove them at any time.
If you believe a child under 13 has made an account, please email us and we'll delete it.
How long we keep it
- Your account and everything in it: until you delete your account.
- Reports: until we review them, then deleted. We keep only a count of reports and our decision.
- Crash reports: kept by Google for a limited time, then deleted by Google.
Deleting your account
You can delete your account at any time in the app: Settings > Delete my account. You'll be asked to sign in again first. Deleting your account:
- takes you out of every squad (a squad you created passes to another member, or is deleted if you were its only member);
- withdraws any squad requests still waiting;
- deletes your profile, card history, Moon Garden, and your hidden and blocked list;
- cancels your morning notes and clears the app's copies on your phone;
- deletes your sign-in account.
If you can't use the app, you can ask us to delete your account at spellscope.app/delete-account.
What may remain afterwards:
- Crash reports already sent, which carry no account details, until Google deletes them.
- People you added by hand to a squad that passed to a new creator, who now looks after them.
- Reports you made, until we review them.
- A count of reports about your name and our decision, with no reason or reporter attached.
- Your account ID, with nothing else attached, in a squad's removed or blocked list or in another person's private hidden list.
Your choices
- Change your details at any time in Settings: your name, signs, familiar, birthday, and whether your squads can see your rising sign and birthday.
- Turn off the morning note in Settings.
- Leave a squad whenever you like.
- Ask for a copy of the information we hold about you, or ask us to correct or delete it, by emailing moonlitpixel.studio@gmail.com. We'll reply within 30 days.
California residents: we don't sell your personal information or share it for advertising. You can ask what we hold about you and ask us to delete it, as described above.
Keeping it safe
Information travels between the app and Google's servers in encrypted form, and our database rules let each person read and change only their own information. Squad information is visible only to that squad's members. No system is perfectly secure, but we keep what we collect small so there's less to protect.
Changes to this policy
If we change what Spellscope collects, for example when we add new features, we'll post the new version here with its new effective date.
